本展「刻の涙」は、20世紀半ばの太平洋戦争期、作家が制作すること自体が困難であった過去と、現在の制作とを対比させながら、
作品がどのように未来へ残り得るのかを、兄弟二人の作品を通して考える二人展です。
兄・開は、アジア太平洋戦争期の前衛美術や、戦争によって制作を断たれた画学生たちの資料を手がかに、
描くことができなかった時間や記憶を、「架空の画家」という設定を用いて現代に描き出します。
弟・優は、重力や素材といった避けることのできない条件に向き合いながら彫刻を制作し、
遠い未来の氷河期に発掘される痕跡を想定することで、作品が時間を超えて残り得る可能性を探ります。
本展では、過去・現在・未来をつなぐ時間の流れのなかで生まれる、言葉にならない感情の揺らぎ――「刻の涙」――をかたちにし、
芸術が時間とどのように関わり、未来へと手渡されていくのかを、問いかけます。
This exhibition, "Tears of Time," is a two-person exhibition that examines, through the works of two brothers,
how artworks might endure into the future, by contrasting the past, when it was difficult for artists to create art
during the Pacific War in the mid-20th century, with their current work.
Kai Ohno, uses materials from avant-garde art during the Asia-Pacific War or works of art students
who were forced to stop creating art due to the war as clues, and uses the setting of a "fictional painter"
to depict the times and memories that these students were unable to paint in the present day.
Yu Ohno, creates sculptures while confronting unavoidable conditions such as gravity and materials,
and by imagining traces that may be unearthed during an ice age in the distant future,
he explores the possibility that his works may survive the test of time.
This exhibition gives form to the ineffable emotional fluctuations born within the flow of time connecting past, present,
and future – the 'tears of time' – questioning how art engages with time and is passed on to the future.
